At Maits Services Ltd, we offer sea freight service which is the transportation of goods in containers from UK to Nigeria. This service takes approximately around 4 - 6 weeks from vessel sailing date. We can arrange pick up from a given address or you deliver your goods to our warehouse during our opening hours where it will be repackaged (if need be for a surcharge), measured, weighted, booking made for the next available sail date and an invoice will be issued. Once an invoice is issued, payment is expected to be made prior to the vessel sail date.
When a container is full of a client’s consignment, we charge for Full Container Load (FCL), otherwise we charge for Less Container Load (LCL). We bill freight on the basis of volume of cargo which is called CBM (Cubic Meter). The total weight of cargo should not exceed 1 ton (1000kgs) because if the cargo weight is above 1 ton, the volume of cargo is treated on the basis of weight. In a nutshell, we charge LCL rate on the basis of ‘per CBM’ or per weight of 1000kgs (1 ton) whichever is higher. CBM is calculated by multiplying length, width and height of packages of goods. For example, if the length, height and width of a cargo is 1.2 meters, 1.5 meters and 1 meters respectively, the volume of cargo is 1.2 1.5 * 1.00 = 1.8 CBM.
It is worth noting that the packaging of the goods is the sender’s responsibility but we can help to repackage goods for a charge. Secure packing will guarantee a damage-free arrival of your consignment. Please communicate with us if you are unsure how securely packed your goods are. Do note that a consignment is not automatically insured, so do have a valid insurance in place for the value of your consignment.
